One of my favorite traditions is making special meals for our family members’ birthdays. Recently our son-in-law celebrated his birthday, and he asked for some traditional Lancaster County specialties: ham balls (my mother-in-law’s recipe), pasta, soybeans with brown butter (you know about brown butter, right?) and lemon sponge pie. However, he also enjoys a little spice and so he requested a corn muffin recipe that includes jalapenos.

To add seasoning to the entire meal, I used my Peugeot salt and pepper mills that I keep on the ready, right next to the stove. Freshly ground salt and pepper creates a huge impact on the flavor of food.
